Nel pieno della crisi
Oggi si è svolto il funerale di un piccolo, dolce bambino, figlio di una sorella di chiesa. Tutta la comunità si è stretta attorno a lei, ma anche la comunità è ferita, mutilata.
Un fratello di chiesa, che non ha potuto partecipare alle esequie, ci ha inviato una piccola riflessione in inglese, che riportiamo. Sotto, trovate una traduzione libera in italiano.

The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. Psalms 34:17.
In the crisis of his life, when making that terrible journey from his childhood home in Canaan to the bondage which awaited him in Egypt, looking for the last time on the hills that hid the tents of his kindred, Joseph remembered his father’s God. He remembered the lessons of his childhood, and his soul thrilled with the resolve to prove himself true—ever to act as became a subject of the King of heaven.
In the bitter life of a stranger and a slave, amidst the sights and sounds of vice and the allurements of heathen worship, a worship surrounded with all the attractions of wealth and culture and the pomp of royalty, Joseph was steadfast. He had learned the lesson of obedience to duty. Faithfulness in every station, from the most lowly to the most exalted, trained every power for highest service.

I giusti gridano e il SIGNORE li ascolta; li libera da tutte le loro disgrazie.
Nel momento più doloroso della sua vita, mentre vedeva allontanarsi per sempre le tende nelle quali era cresciuto, nel terribile viaggio verso la schiavitù che lo aspettava in Egitto, Giuseppe si ricordava del Dio di suo padre. Ricordava gli insegnamenti che aveva ricevuto nella sua infanzia, ed assumeva nel suo cuore la ferma determinazione di rimanervi fedele, qualunque fosse stato il suo destino.
Nella vita amara di straniero e schiavo, in una terra ricca di seduzioni, di ricchezza, circondato dal lusso della corte e dal culto opulento di altre fedi, Giuseppe si mantenne risoluto e fedele alla sua promessa, accettando la volontà del suo Signore, al cui servizio mise a disposizione tutto se stesso.
